I was standing in HMV in Cambridge in 2003, waiting for my Bus to arrive. The HMV in Cambridge opened at 08:45, giving me time to buy a CD to listen to on the way to work, and because I was earning Actual Money, I’d taken to buying a new CD each week to do this with.
So I was browsing pretty aimlessly with no idea of what to get when I heard something interesting. One of the interesting things about early morning in the shop was that the CD on the stero system behind the counter tended to be what the person who opened up actually wanted to listen to, rather than what was dictated from on high. The track on my MP3 Player had stopped, so I took off my headphones.
About four minutes later I asked the assistant what was playing. “Lemon Jelly” he said. I found the CDs and bought everything they’d released (Which, at the time, was two albums - Lemon Jelly.ky and Lost Horizons) and proceeded to pimp them at people.
My brother bought me the new album for my 24^th^ birthday. It’s also fantastic.
